What's doing

Dianne Schwerin will be presenting an educational and entertaining program entitled "Lasagna Gardening" for the Lakes and Woods Horticultural Club at 7 p.m. Monday. Other 2002 programs include Perennials; Natural Landscaping: Healing the Earth and Ourselves; Weed Control; Landscaping for Wildlife; and Hypertufa Containers. The question is what is your favorite Italian recipe? Bring a copy for sharing with those in attendance. The Lakes and Woods Horticultural Club meetings are held in the Mille Lacs Electric Cooperative conference room at Aitkin. Some of the special activities we have planned for 2002 are the annual garage and plant sale in May, the 6th District Spring Convention in June, a garden tour and an August Horticulture Show. 2002 officers are Dianne Schwerin, president; Roxanne Soderman, vice president; Felicia Forder, secretary; and Carol Wold, treasurer. The Garden Club is affiliated with the Minnesota State Horticultural Society.

The Brainerd/Baxter Area Golden K programs for February include Feb. 6, Eileen Iverson, Heartland Senior Federation, "Lowering the Cost of Drugs;" Feb. 13, Renee Steffen, St. Joseph's Home Care staff, "HIV and AIDS;" Feb. 20, Bill Lewis, Timber Bay Camp; Feb. 27, Mary Benson, "Protesting School of the Americas." The Brainerd-Baxter Area Golden K Kiwanis Club meets at 9:30 a.m. Wednesdays at the Senior Citizens Center.

Benefit for Beverly Hatch

There will be a spaghetti dinner from 5:30-7 p.m. Friday at the Ironton American Legion for Beverly Hatch, Crosby. She was diagnosed with Guillian Barre Syndrome which has left her paralyzed. Cost: adults, $5.50; children under 12, $3.50. There will be an auction from area businesses beginning at 7 p.m. Live music will begin at 8 p.m. All proceeds will go to the Hatch family to help with medical expenses. Anyone wishing to donate items for the benefit auction, call Vicki at 546-6537. HomeHealth Partnership Hospice program

The HomeHealth Partnership Hospice program will be offering volunteer training sessions for anyone interested in learning more about becoming a hospice volunteer. There is no cost for the training sessions. The training will be four sessions at Riverwood Health Care Center on Feb. 6, 13, 20 and 27. For more information or to sign up, call 800-698-2311.
