Bonsante decisions Soto in 10 rounds
ST. PAUL -- Tony Bonsante of Crosby-Ironton scored a unanimous 10-round decision over Gustavo Soto of Culiacan, Mexico, in a supermiddleweight fight Thursday at Roy Wilkins Auditorium in the RiverCentre.
Soto was replacing Tony Ayala of San Antonio, Bonsante's original opponent who was unable to make the fight because of legal problems.
"I hit him with a lot of punches," Bonsante said. "He kept coming. Luckily. I had a bigger heart than he did."
Bonsante improved his pro record to 18-3-2. His tentative plan is to box Ayala in March.
Brainerd JV girls' win
The Brainerd Warriors junior varsity girls' basketball team defeated the St. Cloud Apollo Eagles 27-25 Friday.
Haley Bower finished with seven points, seven rebounds and five steals. Lauren Kirkpatrick added six pints, five rebounds and seven steals.
