SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- Mabel "May" Lois VanGeest Brown, 65, Springfield, Mo., died Jan. 27, 2002, in Springfield, Mo.
She was born May 18, 1936, to Frank and Edna Gottsch in Emerson, Neb. She moved to the Brainerd area and grew up around Platte Lake, near Pine Center. She married Roland VanGeest in October 1954. She married Hugh Brown in September 1992 after having moved to Arkansas.
Survivors include her husband, Hugh Brown; two sons, Rick and Ronald VanGeest; two daughters, Roxanne Atwood and Renee VanGeest; two step-sons, Scott brown and David Brown; a step-daughter, Barbara Allison; four sisters, Shirley Moody, Betty Waller, Alice Baker, and Edith Arnold; two brothers, Harry and Steven Gottsch; four grandchildren, four step-grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Her parents and two brothers, Arthur and Franklin Gottsch, died earlier.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Feb. 9 at the Community Alliance Church in Garrison with the Rev. Peter Dorn officiating. Burial will be at Dykeman Union Cemetery in Pine Center.
