LeRoy A. Yonke, age 73, resident of Brainerd, went home to the Lord Sunday, Jan. 28, 2007. LeRoy was born in Upsala, Minn., Aug. 1, 1933, to Alvin and Eleanor (Doty) Yonke. He had been a 30-year South Long Lake resident. In 1979 he moved to the Kingwood Nursing Home in Brainerd where he lived until it closed. While at Kingwood, he was active in setting up activities and was a friend to all other residents. He currently lived at Almond House in Brainerd. LeRoy was a member of Zion Lutheran Church and was well-known in the Brainerd community, shopping at garage sales and walking around town. He loved his family and was a favorite uncle to his nieces and nephews.
Survivors include his sisters, Violet Burtson, of Wyoming, Minn., Karen (Randall) Reither, of Brainerd, Minn., and Sandra (Jim) Cooper, of Reno, Nev.; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his daddy, Alvin; his mother, Eleanor LeTourneau; his stepdad, Patrick LeTourneau; his nephew, Greg Toomey; and great-niece, Madison Helmin.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 2, 2007, at Zion Lutheran Church in Brainerd with the Rev. Mark Kleckner officiating. Burial will be in Lakeview Cemetery in Grey Eagle, Minn. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Thursday at Nelson-Doran Funeral Home and at the church Friday the hour before services.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested.
