I volunteer because: "I want to be of service to people. I think people volunteer with the intention of serving and many times the people we serve turn the tables on us by lifting our morale and changing our attitude. I wish more people would realize what a blessing it is to volunteer."
My most rewarding volunteer experience is or has been: "Working with the Senior Companion Program. Because of this program and home care, people are able to stay in their own homes. We take them shopping, to doctor's appointments, play cards, and socialize with them. I know I would want to stay in my own home as long as I could. I also enjoy playing the organ and piano at the quarterly memorial service at Woodland Good Samaritan. The service is beautiful, many family members attend and most of the people that pass I have know since I was a little kid."
Nominated by: Gina Brusven, Woodland Good Samaritan. "Gladys has been a volunteer at Woodland Good Samaritan since the doors opened. She plays piano in the Care Center, Assisted Living and Apartments for church sing-alongs and special events such as the Christmas and New Years Eve Party. She was one of the founding members of the Geritol Band and has played piano for them and she currently sings with the Golden Gems.
