The Second City comedy troupe of Chicago is coming to Bemidji Feb. 9 for an improvisational workshop and public performance.
The workshop is scheduled for Bemidji State University's Black Box theater in Bangsberg Hall. Cost is $20. Registration is required by calling The Paul Bunyan Playhouse, the downtown theater that is hosting Second City's performance at 7:30 p.m. Tickets also are $20. The number is (218) 751-7270.
Founded in 1959, Second City has helped launch many of the country's best-known comedians and comic actors, including Gilda Radner, John Belushi, Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray, John Candy and many others.
The Crossing Arts Alliance will feature guest artists at its downtown Fine Arts Center throughout the year, said Evelyn Matthies, the group's president.
A selection process has been developed for choosing visual and performance artists for the center's exhibits and entertainment programs, Matthies said.
Artists are asked to contact the center at 833-0416 to learn more about the selection process.
Bekkie Rhoades of Verndale participated in the annual Bemidji State University Madrigal Dinners cast this year, the college said in a news release. Rhoades is a freshman who performed as Lucille in the skit. With 15th century themes, the dinners combine musical, visual, dramatic and culinary arts in the traditional Yuletide event.
