Dear Heloise: Will you please reprint your RECIPE FOR COCOA MIX? We all enjoy your recipes and helpful hints. Thanks a bunch. -- Mrs. Betty J. Nelson, Medford, Ore.
With winter here, a warm cup of cocoa is just the thing to take off the chill.
All you need is:
2 cups powdered milk
1/4 cup cocoa
1 cup powdered sugar (or sugar substitute)
dash of salt
For a richer mix, add 1/3 cup powdered, nondairy creamer or 1 tablespoon or 2 of malted milk powder.
To enjoy:
Place 4 tablespoons (depending on your taste) of the mix into a cup and fill with boiling water. You can add whipped cream or marshmallows for an extra treat.
When using a sugar substitute, the mix is more concentrated, so you will have to "taste test" how much to use. Also, I like to sprinkle some cinnamon in for a little different taste. -- Heloise
COUPON QUERY
Dear Heloise: I have been saving "no expiration date" grocery coupons since the early 1980s. I have a boxful. Most do not have UPC coding on them.
I have not approached the grocery store with any of them yet. Will I be embarrassed to do so? -- Mary Ellen Fitch, Buffalo, N.Y.
Call or take the coupons to the store and ask to speak to the manager. Share your dilemma. The manager can probably check a couple of the coupons for you to see if they will be accepted or not. -- Heloise
