Lois R. Johnson, 78, Brainerd, died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2000, at Bethany Good Samaritan Village.
She was born Dec. 15, 1921, in Minneapolis to Victor and Lillian (Ewert) Johnson. She entered the Army on Feb. 15, 1944, and worked in the Pentagon. Following her honorable discharge on Jan. 15, 1946, she attended the University of New York, graduating summa cum laude with a degree in physical therapy. She returned to Minnesota where she worked at two Minneapolis area hospitals. In the early 1950s, she moved to Brainerd where she helped start the physical therapy department at St. Joseph's Medical Center. She also worked at the state hospital in Brainerd. Following her retirement she moved to Hawaii for three years before returning to Brainerd. She was a member of First Lutheran Church in Brainerd and the Brainerd American Legion.
Survivors include a longtime friend, Esther Bodeker, and several cousins.
Her parents died earlier.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the First Lutheran Church. Military rites will be provided by American Legion Post #255 from Brainerd. Burial will be in the Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.
Friends may call at the church an hour before services Tuesday.
Arrangements are with the Brenny Funeral Chapel in Baxter.
