Kixters win in high kick at conference competition

The Brainerd High School varsity and junior varsity dance teams competed in the Central Lakes Conference Dance Team meet Saturday at Apollo High School in St. Cloud.

Brainerd Kixters received first place in the varsity precision high kick division, first place in the varsity jazz funk division, and first place in the junior varsity precision high kick division.

The meet has been held for the past three years and the Brainerd Kixters have won all three years.

The Brainerd Kixters will compete next in the section meet Feb. 12 in Anoka. The top four schools out of 12 in Section 3AAA will then advance to the state preliminary competition Feb. 18-19 at Williams Arena at the University of Minnesota where they will match up with the top four dance teams from sections 1 and 2. Finals will be held in the evenings with six of the 12 teams advancing.

The Kixters will perform their state routine for the public at 7 p.m. Saturday in the Brainerd High School gym. Tickets are $3 for adults and $1 for students. The year's state kick routine is called "Shake Like An Earthquake," and the jazz routine is "Deeper Love."
