Roy J. Fischer, age 94, resident of Brainerd, died Friday, Jan. 26, 2007, at his home.
Roy was born Dec. 26, 1912, in Manning, Iowa, to William J. and Nettie (Eike) Fischer. He married Helen Kahl in Denison, Iowa, on Oct. 11, 1939. They lived in Manning, Arcadia and Westside, Iowa, prior to moving to Pierz, Minn., where they farmed. Roy had been a Brainerd resident since 1978.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church and Trinity Freetimers, and served as a church usher. He had been a member of South Long Lake Association, served on Consolidated Telephone Board of Directors and Federal Land Bank Board of Directors and the Westside Creamery Board.
Survivors include his wife, Helen; son, Richard (Karen) Fischer of Pierz; daughter, Jean (Marcel) Hayes of Pierz; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and sister, Eva Nobling of Manilla, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Julia Rowedder.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2007, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Brainerd with Pastor David Holte officiating. Burial will be in Vaale Cemetery in rural Brainerd. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. Monday at Nelson-Doran Funeral Home in Brainerd and at the church Tuesday the hour before services.
