Discover the good ol' days' of early horse logging at Itasca State Park 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Feb. 12 as 'lumberjacks' demonstrate old time logging methods.
Dress warmly in winter clothing and see lumberjacks use a two-man crosscut saw, follow the teams of horses as they skid logs to a decking area, and watch a teamster use his horses to load the logs onto a horse-drawn sled.
Afterward, warm-up and visit with the "lumberjacks" at an old-fashioned soup and chili feed at the Lake Itasca Region Pioneer Farmers Showground.
This old time logging demonstration will take place at Itasca State Park at the North Picnic Grounds/Indian Mounds Parking area. The selected trees being removed are part of a hazard tree removal project. Parking is available at the North Picnic Grounds/Indian Mounds parking area. Follow signs to the demonstration site; look for the big blue sign marked "Headwaters Parking." A state park vehicle permit is required. Call 218-266-2100 for more information.
Itasca State Park and the Lake Itasca Region Pioneer Farmers cosponsor this event.
