Have you been sticking with your New Year's resolutions to get healthy and lose weight?
If it's becoming increasingly tough to meet fitness goals, the Brainerd Family YMCA is offering a way to keep you focused.
The BodyWorks YMCA Fitness Challenge starts Tuesday. It's an eight-week fitness challenge designed to help people remain dedicated to their New Year's resolutions. The challenge ends March 29.
"They can lose their steam," said Heidi Rudstrom, YMCA wellness coordinator. "Everybody is geared up in January but then they kind of forget and get their old habits back."
Cost is $10 and participants will receive a T-shirt and a personal log. They determine their own fitness goals, such as gaining strength or losing weight, and journal in their personal logs, which will be turned in at the end of the challenge. A star chart will keep track of their progress outside the Wellness Center at the YMCA. Every week there will be prize drawings that include free oil changes and haircuts from area businesses for those who met their goals that week. The grand prize for people who met their personal goals all eight weeks is a complete car detail from the BodyWorks in Baxter, which is a fitness challenge sponsor.
Rudstrom said previous fitness challenges at the YMCA have had more than 200 participants. Last year they offered a team challenge and hosted a 12-days of fitness challenge during the Christmas holiday season.
The BodyWorks YMCA Fitness Challenge is open to teens, adults and families. Rudstrom said they are encouraging people to challenge their family and friends.
"It does keep people motivated," said Rudstrom, of fitness challenges. "It's amazing what people can do in eight weeks."
