ST. PAUL (AP) -- For the first time, half of Minnesota taxpayers will file their forms electronically this season, giving the state among the highest percentage of e-filers in the nation.
It's a goal state officials are trying aggressively to meet. The cover of Minnesota's 2002 tax booklet reads: "Want to throw this booklet away? You can with e-file."
Last year, more than a million Minnesotans filed their state and federal tax forms electronically, while 1.4 million filed them by paper.
The numbers will meet somewhere in the middle this year, department experts said.
