Following is information about each of the 13 Miss Nisswa candidates.
Kathleen McCabe, Merrifield, is the daughter of John and Linda McCabe. Her hobbies include competitive cheerleading, dancing, singing, reading and spending time with her friends. She plans to attend Central Lakes College and then major in elementary education.
Carmela Sheik, Nisswa, is the daughter of Tamara and Mark Malan, and Richard Sheik. She enjoys softball, water sports, running and outdoor activities year-round, from snowmobiling in the winter to water-skiing in the summer. She plans to attend college in Phoenix, Ariz., to be a narcotics investigator.
Kelli Jensen, Nisswa, is the daughter of John Jensen and Cindy Jensen. Her hobbies include scrapbooking, downhill skiing, snowboarding and piano. She is in the Brainerd High School A Cappella and church choirs and is president of her youth group. School activities include swimming and softball team manager and the nordic ski team, Senior Class Cabinet, editor of the school newspaper, business manager for the school yearbook and member of the National Honor Society. She plans to attend Concordia College in St. Paul to become a high school English teacher.
Jill London, Nisswa, is the daughter of Bruce and Erma London. She is involved in swimming, cross country skiing and triathlon. She is a lifeguard at the YMCA and likes to inline skate, bike and run, and her hobbies include reading, drawing, playing the piano, and church activities. She is involved in Class Cabinet and possibly plans to attend the College of St. Benedict to major in pre-med.
Miss Nisswa candidates
Stacey Verkennes, Nisswa, is the daughter of Mary Kay and Bob Verkennes. She participates in diving, downhill skiing and track. Her hobbies include shopping, working out, swimming and water-skiing. She plans to attend Colorado Mt. College in Steamboat Springs.
Lauren Seipp, Nisswa, is the daughter of Lee and Terry Seipp. She enjoys soccer, water sports, decorating, inline skating and hanging out with her friends. She participates in Young Apostle at St. Christopher's Church, and Senior Cabinet. She plans to attend Central Lakes College and St. Cloud State University to major in elementary education.
Sara Langer, Pequot Lakes, is the daughter of Roger and Shelly Langer. She participates in basketball and track and is involved in SADD, band and Spanish Club, as well as her church's ministry team. She likes to travel, read and play the piano, and she volunteers at Camp Confidence. She plans to attend Bemidji State University or Bethel College to major in elementary education.
Kassy Dallmann, Nisswa, is the daughter of Bertha Anderson. She enjoys running and inline skating and participates in tennis and track and her church's ministry team. She volunteers at St. Joseph's Medical Center. She is in Key Club, Interact Club and Class Cabinet. She plans to attend North Dakota State University to major in pharmacy or chemistry.
Emily Wangstad, Nisswa, is the daughter of Lee and Nancy Wangstad. She is on the Kixters dance team, and participates in band and orchestra and plays piano. She likes pottery and architecture. Her hobbies include skateboarding, church youth group activities, painting and drawing. She plans to attend college for architecture.
Miss Nisswa candidates
Emily Settergren, Nisswa, is the daughter of Gregg and Vicky Settergren. She enjoys downhill skiing, inline skating and water sports. She is a member of Senior Class Cabinet, is involved in church activities and volunteers at St. Mary's Place. She plans to attend the University of North Dakota for nursing.
Jessica Baker, Brainerd, is the daughter of Bill and Diane Baker. She enjoys swimming, photography, drawing, skating, hockey, tubing, wakeboarding, downhill skiing, writing and hanging out with her friends. She is involved in Class Cabinet and Interact Club. She plans to attend the University of North Dakota to major in communications and journalism.
Erica Nye (Mathiowetz), Nisswa, is the daughter of Susan and Kevin Mathiowetz. Her hobbies are cooking and baking. She volunteers for a number of organizations and events, including Children's Home Society of Minnesota, Basilica Church renovation in Minneapolis and fund-raisers for the American Cancer Society-Relay for Life. She enjoys the outdoors and traveling. She has been accepted at Le Cordon Bleu (Paris Culinary Arts-Chef program), and hopes to be head chef at a cafe in London.
Ashley Ryan, Brainerd, is the daughter of Bill and Cindi Ryan. She is a Kixter, plays tennis and attends church retreats. She has been accepted at Minnesota State University-Mankato, and will major in business management and minor in human resources.
