Nate Thiesse, former Brainerd resident and an employee of the American Speed Association's Country Joe Racing team, has signed a one-year contract to race in the Featherlite Southwest Series this season.
Thiesse, who served as a crew chief for one of the teams most of last season, will drive for RockMar Motorsports of Corona, Calif. RockMar Motorsports is owned by Mark Golembeski who is affiliated with Rick Hendrick Motorsports.
4 area racers to compete
Trevor John of Crosslake, Levi LaVallee of Longville, Mike Schultz of Fort Ripley and Amanda Johnson of Aitkin will compete in the Winter X Games VII Thursday through Sunday on Buttefield Mountain in Aspen, Colo.
John qualified by placing sixth at last year's event. LaValle qualified by finishing fourth in the World Snowmobile Association's Snocross Worldwide Championship Series opening round Nov. 29 at Spirit Mountain. Schultz qualified in a WSA Minnesota Regional Championship Series round Dec. 7 at Quadna Resort.
Schultz, who also raced in the X Games last year, is the only one of the three who doesn't race in professional classes. He is a Semi-Pro racer.
Johnson was invited by WSA to race in the Hillcross. She is the first woman to compete in either snocross or hillcross.
