Dear Heloise: After struggling to put on a bracelet this morning, I was thinking I would have to buy one of those gadgets I had seen in catalogs to help fasten one.
Suddenly, I thought of another way. I took a piece of dental floss, threaded it through the circular loop of the bracelet and held both ends of the floss in the hand I was putting the bracelet on. With my free hand, I was then able to open the lobster-claw clasp and hook it onto the circle. No gadget needed! -- Jenny Cline, Westfield, N.J.
We tried your method in our office, and it worked on one bracelet but didn't work on another. So, give it a try to see if it works for you.
We've also received letters from readers who tape the bracelet to their arm so they can get it attached. -- Heloise
Here a few unique ways to use those handy sticky notes:
* They're good for writing direction on and attaching to the dash of your car.
* Use to mark your place in a book you're reading.
* Put in a recipe book with notes about a certain recipe, and leave it in the book for the next time.
* They're handy to write chores on and attach to your purse.
Dear Heloise: I've been reading your columns for 20 years now. I would like to thank you for your helpful hints.
My mother wasn't good with stains or household duties when I was a child. She'd rather be outside gardening or doing anything besides housework. As children, our clothes would be clean, but if we got a stain on them, we'd have to live with the stain eternally. That's when I began to read your column. I'm known as the stain abolisher.
My mother became fascinated that I could fix simple things and keep the house running smoothly and with few stained clothes. I still use many of your recipes and turn to your articles when I have stubborn stains.
I guess what I'm trying to spit out here is "thank you." Your articles have saved many clothes in my family. -- Anne, Via E-mail
That's what this column is all about -- the sharing of helpful information! And you're welcome -- I'm glad the column has helped you! -- Heloise
