Prairie Bay and Cash Wise Liquor will serve hors d'oeuvres paired with wine from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Feb. 11 at Prairie Bay in Baxter. Proceeds from the $15 donation will benefit the Crisis Line and Referral Service.

Airport commission to meet Tuesday

The Brainerd Lakes Regional Airport Commission will meet at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday in the airport conference room.

Pillager, Verndale teachers vie for Minnesota Teacher of the Year

There are 106 teachers who have been named candidates for the 2010 Minnesota Teacher of the Year, including two lakes area educators.

Barbara McLean, a Pillager High School English teacher, and Shari Brewer, a Verndale High School math teacher, are among the candidates.

The 2010 Minnesota Teacher of the Year will be announced May 2 at The Northland Inn in Brooklyn Park. During the coming weeks, a 22-member panel of community leaders will name a group of semi-finalists and then finalists.

Education Minnesota organizes and underwrites the program.

School finance committee to meet Feb. 2

The Brainerd School Board Finance Committee will meet at 11:30 a.m. Feb. 2 in the board room at Washington Educational Services Building, 804 Oak St., Brainerd.

Agenda items include budget revision, potential staffing additions for the 2010-11 school year and any other such business that may properly come before the committee.
