ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Richard "Butch" Peterson, 67, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend, passed away Monday, Jan. 22, 2007, in Albuquerque, N.M., following a difficult battle with cancer.
A resident of Los Lunas, N.M., Butch was born in Brainerd, Minn., Sept. 14, 1939, to Peter and Nettie (Sather) Peterson. He is survived by his wife, Dottie; son, Craig and Shannon Peterson, of Nebraska; son, Eric and Dianne Peterson, of Albuquerque, N.M.; son, Chad and Ruth Peterson, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; daughter, Shiela and Jeff Grand, of St. Andrews, Minn.; and nine grandchildren. He is also survived by brothers, James (Marge) Peterson, of Brainerd, Minn., Peter Peterson, of St. Louis Park, Minn.; and sister, Barbara Johnson, of Brainerd, Minn. He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Donald; and sisters, Gertrude Nelson and Edna Morss.
Butch served in the United States Navy for 20 years and worked for the Crow Wing County Sheriff's Department for 20 years before retiring with his wife in New Mexico.
A graveside service with U.S. Navy honors will be held at the Veterans Cemetery in Santa Fe, N.M., on Friday, Feb. 2, 2007, at 1 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Presbyterian Health Care Foundation, P.O. Box 26666, Albuquerque, NM 87125 for Presbyterian Kaseman Hospice Inpatient Unit.
