SOUTH ST. PAUL (AP) (USDA) -- Friday cattle: 1,150 estimated.

Compared to Thursday, not enough slaughter steers, heifers, and Holstein steers on offer for a market comparison. Slaughter cows and bulls sold steady with bulk of cows lean and boning. Near 1,000 feeders expected for the auction.

Steers: Select 2-3 package 1500 lbs 64.00.

Holsteins: Few Choice 2-3 1500-1550 lbs 57.00-57.25. Select and Choice 2-3 package 1460 lbs 56.00.

Heifers: No test.

Cows:

Premium White 70-75 percent lean, individual 44.00, hi-dressing individual 46.00, lo-dressing 42.75-43.25.

Breaking 70-80 percent lean, 43.50, lo-dressing 39.00-40.00.

Boning 80-85 percent lean, 40.25-43.50, lo-dressing 37.75-39.00.

Lean 85-90 percent lean, 39.00-43.00, hi-dressing 43.50-44.50, lo-dressing individual 38.00.

Bulls: Few Yield Grade 1-2 1400 lbs 50.00-54.00, low dressing individual 48.50.

For the week: Compared to late last week, slaughter steers and heifers started out the week steady to 1.00 higher on a good run, quickly turning steady to 1.00 lower by Wednesday. Holstein steers also began the week steady, but caught fire on Tuesday and Wednesday as trading turned active with prices 1.00 to 1.50 higher. Cow buyers opened up the week giving steady money, with slaughter cows finishing out the week 1.00 to 2.00 higher. Slaughter bulls started and finished the week steady on light receipts. Producers had no problem finding their way to the sale barn this week, as temperatures were above average with lots of sunshine.

Hogs: 500 estimated.

Barrows and Gilts: Compared to Thursday, steady.

47-50 percent lean 220-260 lbs 39.50-40.00; 47-50 percent lean 260-270 lbs 38.50-39.50; 46-48 percent lean 270-280 lbs 37.50-38.50.

Sows: Steady.

US 1-3 300-500 lbs 27.00, 500-550 lbs 27.00, 550-600 lbs 28.00, 600-700 lbs 29.00.

Boars: under 300 lbs 30.00, 300-700 lbs 14.00.

For the week: Compared to last Friday, barrows and gilts sold .50 lower. Sows under 500 lbs sold 1.00 to 2.00 higher, with sows over 500 lbs trading steady to .50 higher.

Sheep: 100 estimated.

Compared to Thursday, all classes sold steady. Supply near 45 percent slaughter lambs, 45 percent feeder lambs, and 10 percent slaughter ewes.
