State Rep. Mary Ellen Otremba, DFL-Long Prairie, has pledged to ensure that Minnesota families get the benefit of the $1.6 billion state budget surplus announced in December, whether in the form of tax relief, assistance to rural families or tangible investments in education and infrastructure.
Otremba said health care -- particularly helping seniors with high drug costs -- also will be a top priority for her during the 2000 session.
The lawmaker said she anticipated a busy session in 2000, with the Legislature beginning its work Tuesday and expected to adjourn before the Easter holiday.
The first committee deadline will be March 3 for committees to act favorably on bills in the house of origin. The second deadline is March 10 for committees to act favorably on bills (or companions) that met the first deadline in the other house.
The third deadline is March 17 for committees to act favorably on omnibus finance bills.
