The schedule is:

A fee of $15 is charged for the materials. This program is a series of four classes. To register, call 824-1080 or come to the health department office.

Child/teen checkup dates listed

The Crow Wing County Health Department will hold a Child and Teen Checkup/Early Childhood Screening Clinic from 8:15 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 8, and from noon to 5:45 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 22, in Brainerd.

Child and Teen Checkup clinics are also offered in Crosby the first Friday of each month (Feb. 4) and in Pequot Lakes the first Tuesday of the month (Feb. 1). Checkups at all three locations are by appointment only.

The Child and Teen Checkup is a series of checkups for apparently well children and young adults in Crow Wing County from age 6 months through 20. The purpose of the checkup is to find health problems or deviations of growth and development and have them corrected before they become serious.

A full Child and Teen Checkup includes hearing and vision testing, height and weight check, simple laboratory tests, a physical exam, growth and development assessment, a nutrition review and immunizations.

The Child and Teen Checkup is conducted by trained public health nurses at the Crow Wing County Health Department. The Child and Teen Checkup assists the parent to promote the health of the child. If the screening reveals a health problem requiring further diagnosis or treatment, parents are notified and assistance is offered for scheduling appointments and transportation if needed.

The Child and Teen Checkup fee is based on the family's income. No one will be turned away because of a lack of finances. Call Amy at 824-1097 or Jackie at 824-1089 for an appointment or more information.

Crow Wing County Health Department also administers the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children. The program provides nutrition education, referrals to medical providers and vouchers for specific foods for pregnant, postpartum and breast-feeding women, infants and children up to age 5.

Clinics are held the first Tuesday of every month in Pequot Lakes, the first Thursday and following Friday of the month in Crosby, and several days in Brainerd.

The income threshold is set fairly high. For example, a family of four with an income of $45,924 may be eligible for the program. To inquire or make an appointment, call WIC at 824-1073.
