Brimming with popular songs, lively dances, comic action and dazzling sets and costumes, "Hello, Dolly!" opens Feb. 14 at Central Lakes College.
Based on Thornton Wilder's farce "The Matchmaker," the musical adaptation by Jerry Herman and Michael Stewart is one of America's most popular stage productions, said Dennis Lamberson, CLC theater director.
"Hello, Dolly!" ran for a record-breaking seven years on Broadway, Lamberson said, "kicking up its heels, shaking its gaudy feathers, and demanding the surrender of audiences to its charm and color, as it invariably has at thousands of performances throughout the world."
Performances are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Feb. 14-17 and 21-24, with 2 p.m. matinees Feb. 18 and 25, all in the John Chalberg Theatre on the Brainerd campus.
Jenny Olsen, Brainerd, and Rande Erickson, Baxter, as Irene Molloy and Cornelius Hackle prove it "only takes a moment" to fall in love in Central Lakes College Theatre Department's production of "Hello, Dolly!"
Tickets are $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and $5 for children, and are available by calling 855-8199.
Lamberson will direct the production while fellow CLC Theatre Director Michael Harvey will serve as technical director and set and light designer.
Steve Anderson is the production's musical director and Joelle Murray will serve as guest choreographer.
"Hello, Dolly!" tells the story of Mrs. Dolly Levi's efforts to marry Horace Vandergelder, a "well known half-a-millionaire" in 1890s America.
Dolly also manages to matchmake for several other couples in the story.
Sue Johnson of Brainerd will lead the cast of 50 as the irrepressible matchmaker Dolly Levi, while Mike Soderlund of Brainerd will play Horace.
Johnson has appeared in several CLC productions, including "Ruthless" and "Oklahoma," and has served as vocal director in others.
Soderlund, a CLC community theater regular, was last seen in "Bus Stop."
CLC theater veteran Rande Erickson of Baxter will play Cornelius, who along with sidekick Barnaby, played by newcomer Tony Cosert of Brainerd, searches for adventure and love in New York City. Erickson appeared as Daddy Warbucks in "Annie."
Others in the cast include Jenny Olsen of Baxter, Ellie Loschko of Brainerd, Heather Vaughan of Baxter, Joshua Humphrey of Pine River and Dawn Marks of Brainerd.
The song-and-dance ensemble includes Kadee Jo Anderson of Crosby, Nic Hanson and Taylor Hays of Nisswa, Tracy Funt of Little Falls, Katrina and Lydia Hawley of Emily, Ann Marie Lubovich, Max Lundrigan and Jordon Zaffke of Pine River, Levi Ruikshank of Merrifield, and Mike Sonkys of Pequot Lakes.
The Brainerd-Baxter residents in the ensemble include Ricky Flores, Erin Frink, Kathi Hamblet, Kristen Hambleton, Heidi Johnson, Dylan Kargel, Aaron Kramer, Steve Lash, Karen Mertes, Anna Midthun, Nicole Millette, James Nash, Brent Olsen, Shayla Paradeis, David Pundt, Brandy Roach, Mary Rosenberg, Joey Trucano, Christine Anne Weger, Hannah Kangas, Brian Kolbeck, Abigail Larson, Shane Lueck, Cody Randall, Ben and Doug Revermann, and Mark Smeltzer.
A post-play party in the lobby is planned for opening night, which falls on Valentine's Day. Roses will be sold in the lobby.
