ST. PAUL (AP) -- Minnesota Vikings receiver Cris Carter on Thursday was expected to announce that he will return to the team next year, and possibly play two more seasons.
Carter was scheduled to reveal his future plans at a Tampa, Fla., hotel as part of Super Bowl XXXV week, team sources said. The announcement was expected during a Pro Bowl preview news conference.
"All indications are that he will return to play," team owner Red McCombs said Wednesday. "I don't know of anything else that will happen."
Carter, 35, said he made his decision on his future in November, but he has not talked to the media since Minnesota's 41-0 loss to the New York Giants in the NFC Championship. He declined to comment on Wednesday.
Carter made the Pro Bowl this season and continues to play at a high level. He has talked about getting into broadcasting and has had some preliminary talks with FOX and ESPN.
