Preparations for the Nisswa Winter Jubilee are in full swing, with the event set for Feb. 1 through 3. The Jaycees and Jaycee women sponsor the annual event.

30 years ago (1970)

Dennis Flanagan, President of Brainerd Bowling Association, presented Ken Johnson a gold watch for having rolled a 299 singles game here Dec. 10, 1969.

40 years ago (1960)

Fifty Two-Some Dance Club held its "Florida Fling" party on Friday at Club LaGuyal. Music for the evening dancing was by Howie Hill and his orchestra.

60 years ago (1940)

Blowing a comfortable 10-point margin gained during the first half, Brainerd buried itself deeper in the lower division of the Central 8 Conference by losing to St. Cloud Tech 27 to 25.

80 years ago (1920)

Richard and Robert Ebert, sons of Mr. and Mrs. A.C. Ebert, were operated on at a local hospital and had their tonsils removed.

100 years ago (1900)

"Can you tell me," asked Sunday School teacher of a little boy, "why the Israelites made a golden calf?"

"Because they didn't have gold enough to make a cow," was the reply.
