I rode my bike from New Orleans, lived on the water tower, walked the state of Minnesota and swam across Mille Lacs. For 2007, I will loose 100 pounds before Dec 20 to promote the Kinship Wellness Challenge.
What is the Kinship Wellness Challenge? A challenge to the central lakes area to get in better health. Kinship Partners is a child-mentoring program, and kids in our program and throughout the area need to get in better shape. So for 2007, a big focus in our program will be fitness - for all area residents.
For many, new year resolutions are already ending, and for some, they just never started. Everywhere you turn, weight and fitness are being talked about, so Kinship Partners, in combination with the Brainerd Dispatch - during the next 46 weeks - will provide weekly tips and information for readers to make getting healthier easier.
To get the program under way, and for the extreme example, I will loose 100 pounds (he started on Dec. 20, 2006). Over the next year, I will keep track of my progress weekly while bringing you the helpful tips and information you can use to improve your own health. On the Kinship Wellness Challenge, (www.kinshippartners.org) Web site, you will be able to participate in many ways:
Directly participate with your own health improvement commitment.
Pledge money for my weight loss.
Learn of events to get you more active.

Before starting this year-long program, I consulted my physician, nutritionist and fitness trainer and obtained my baseline medical numbers. You should consult your physician before you start your wellness challenge.
GARY WALTERS will write a weekly column - to appear in the Neighbors section each Wednesday - regarding his progress in the Kinship Wellness Challenge. Next week: How to get started on your own fitness and weight-loss program.
