STAPLES -- Floyd Charles Howard, 64, Staples, died Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2003, at Greater Staples Care Center in Staples.
He was born Dec. 17, 1937, in Urbana, Ill., to James and Leah (Maudlin) Howard. He attended Pershing High School in Plumber and continued his education at the University of Minnesota. Most of his working years were spent with the Minnesota Department of Transportation as a civil engineer designing and overseeing Minnesota's road construction. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include three daughters, Angela Mae, Goleta, Calif., Kathleen Smykalski, Maplewood, and Julie Shaw, Atlanta; a son, Daniel Howard, Spokane, Wash.; four grandchildren; three sisters, Florence Hopkins, Springfield, Ga., Ruth Kuntz, Bismarck, N.D., and Shirley Peters, Thief River Falls; and a brother, Roger Howard, Staples.
His parents died earlier.
Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Father Peter Kirchner officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery in Red Lake Falls.
Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. today at Brenny Funeral Chapel in Staples with parish prayers at 7:30 p.m. and the rosary to follow.
