What they should have done
Too bad Mr. Walseth didn't retire before he allowed the reserve funds to be dwindled away. When my checking account is low, I start cutting back before it is empty. Maybe this is something our school district should have done as well as our state and federal governments.

OUR OPINION: HIRING
The Brainerd School Board should reject the recommendation of its Personnel Committee to conduct an internal search only in its bid to replace retiring Superintendent Jerry Walseth.

Open Forum: Birthday greetings that will never be heard
Approximately 48,000,000 children will never hear those words because that is the number of babies killed by surgical abortions in the United States since 1973. There are many more horrifying statistics, but I am certain by just mentioning the word, abortion, Ive already lost some of you to the sports, Vox Pop, or comics pages.

OUR OPINION: EDUCATION
When Brainerd High Schools football team traveled to the Metrodome last fall to take on Cretin Derham Hall in the semifinals of the Class 5A state tournament it took more than two dozen buses to transport the team, the band and excited fans. The excitement generated by the Warriors playoff run reminded old-timers of the high schools bids in the state basketball tournament in 1954 and 1958.

I dont know about your other readers but I was sickened when I saw our presidents picture, arm in arm, holding hands with a Saudi prince!
