BREEZY POINT -- The Breezy Point Area Women's Club awarded a $500 scholarship to Patty Durham, an elementary education student in the Southwest State University program based at Central Lakes College in Brainerd.
Durham, Jenkins, received the award through a determination of the Central Lakes College Foundation, which worked with the women's club scholarship committee of Mary Sobania and Kathy Zender, both of Breezy Point.
They said the scholarship stipulates its recipient be a resident of the lakes area and of non-traditional college age while maintaining a "B" average as a full-time student.
"The award is very much appreciated," said Durham, who expects to complete her undergraduate degree by the end of 2003. "It is a financial help in the practical sense. This honor is a personal boost to have this kind of support from those who believe in me."
"We feel especially pleased that the selection committee has chosen someone we know through church work in the community," said Sobania.
