NISSWA -- The Nisswa Area Women of Today will host the Nisswa Scholarship Pageant and Little Miss Nisswa Pageant at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 8, at Lutheran Church of the Cross in Nisswa.
Seven seniors will compete in the scholarship pageant. They are Greta Biersach, Christy Brown, Clarissa Dobson, Tiffany Klang, Katie MacDonald, Shauna Sucik and Janessa Wentworth. Lisa Ebert, Miss Nisswa 2001, will bid her final farewell.
The seven contestants will participate in Queen's Fun Day on Saturday at the Quarterdeck Boat House Eatery, where they will learn pageantry tips from Kathleen Thompson of Brainerd, who is Mrs. Minnesota, and Nicole Mills, president of the Nisswa Area Women of Today.
Three judges will critique the contestants on their essay, personal interview, casual wear, formal wear and impromptu question.
The scholarships include $1,200 for Miss Nisswa, $700 for First Princess and $500 for Second Princess. They will receive flowers and gift certificates. Because of support of area businesses and individual sponsors, $100 will be given to Miss Congeniality, the essay winner and the interview winner and $50 will go to each contestant who does not place in a category.
The scholarship contestants will dance to "Kids of America," choreographed by the girls themselves and led by contestant Janessa Wentworth. Sue Jewell will be the pianist.
The Nisswa Area Women of Today will honor area fire and police department personnel and First Responders along with area civic organizations, the Nisswa American Legion, Lions, Jaycees and Nisswa Women's Club.
Herd of Bananas will provide entertainment at the pageant.
Thirteen second-grade girls will participate in the Little Miss Nisswa Pageant the same evening. They will do a dance choreographed by Ali Meyer. Little Miss Nisswa 2001, Katherine Nistler, will draw the new Little Miss Nisswa's name out of a hat. Little Miss Nisswa wins a crown, sash, flowers and gift certificates.
