Eight mailboxes were stolen and several others were damaged over the past weekend according to Brainerd Police. The mailboxes were ripped off their posts in the area of Graydon, Crestview and Linden Lane. They were later recovered in a nearby swamp.

The Brainerd Water and Light Board is suing the Brainerd school district for what it says are $43,000 in unpaid electricity charges dating back to 1955. Errors in the electric meter at Franklin Junior High caused the school to be charged too little.
60 years ago (1949)
The mercury hit 23 degrees below zero last night, matching December 26 as the coldest day of the winter. The cold didn't hamper traffic and all trains and bus lines operated on schedule. Roads were clear but icy.

Three projects were discussed by the aldermen at last evening's council meeting: Relief of the storm sewer situation in downtown Brainerd, paving of Cemetery Hill and establishment of a municipal airport.

The masquerade skate at the Casino Rink was a success Thursday evening. The floor was thronged with skaters in costume and the gallery was filled with spectators.
