Area employment dropped 4.2 percent for the fourth quarter of 1984. Brainerd employment now stands at 8,846 compared to 9,234 for the third quarter of 1964 or a decline of 388.

Joe Ruttger was unanimously elected last night to chair the Crow Wing County Planning Commission, replacing seven-year member Joe DeRosier, who has left the board.
