The Central Lakes College Raiders will induct five former athletes or coaches into their hall of fame Saturday, Feb. 5, in the CLC cafeteria.

Colleen (Kovall) Chambers, Carol Miller, Steve Stangl, Rob Veith and Brian Winter are the inductees. Social hour begins at 5 p.m., dinner at 6 p.m. and awards at 7 p.m. A post-banquet gathering is scheduled at the Moose Lodge at 8 p.m.

Brainerd skiers compete for colleges

Several former Brainerd High School alpine skiers have competed in Midwest Collegiate Ski Association races this winter.

Among them are Andy Rangen, University of Minnesota-Duluth, third place in slalom at Ozzello Cup Jan. 5, seventh in slalom at the Tibbett's Memorial Jan. 8 and 14th in slalom at Hardscrabble Jan. 15.

Julie Magnuson, UMD, sixth in GS at Ozzello Cup.

Eric Charpentier, University of Wisconsin-Madison, 26th place in slalom at Tibbett's and 22nd in slalom at Hardscrabble Jan. 15.

Josh Melby, UMD, 19th in slalom at Tibbett's and 24th in GS at Hardscrabble.

Lexy Zarling, St. Olaf, 15th in slalom at Tibbett's, 13th in GS at Tibbett's and 11th in slalom at Hardscrabble.

Sled dog race in Remer canceled

Because of lack of snow, the Mid-Minnesota 150 Sled Dog Race scheduled Feb. 4-6 in Remer has been canceled.

The fifth annual chili cookoff will be conducted at the Remer Fire Hall at 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 5.

Stefan, Johnson win races

WHIPHOLT -- David Stefan of Remer and Amanda Johnson of Aitkin were winners at the Central Minnesota Cross Country Racing snowmobile opener on Leech Lake Jan. 2.

Stefan raced his Arctic Cat to a win in the 440 Semi-Pro 440 fan final. Johnson raced her Polaris to a win in the Women's feature. Her sister, Sara, placed second.

Stefan also tied with another Arctic Cat racer for third in the 440 Semi-Pro Liquid final.

Bjorklund scores 23 for Cal Poly

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. -- Brainerd High School graduate Chris Bjorklund scored 23 points as Cal Poly nipped Nevada 71-70 in men's college basketball Thursday.

Bjorklund was 8-for-16 from the field, 7-of-10 at the foul line and had four rebounds.

Nelson scores 14 for Bemidji State

BEMIDJI (AP) -- Mac Smith scored 20 points to lead Bemidji State to a 75-66 victory over Wayne State in men's basketball Friday night. Larry Smith scored 16 points for the Beavers (6-10, 4-4 NSIC), who took a 9-point lead at halftime. Brainerd High School graduate Chad Nelson had 14 and Greg Halbert 13 points off the bench.

Joerger collects 11 points, six assists

MANKATO (AP) -- Nick Ellenberger had 20 points and 11 rebounds as Minnesota State beat North Dakota State 73-61 Friday night.

The Mavericks (12-3, 5-1 NCC) got 14 points from Dontae Johnson, 12 from Eric Siebrands and 11 from Blaine Joerger of Staples, who added six assists.
