Glasby, Warriors pin loss on Rocori

"I wrestle wherever they need me to go and do whatever they need me to do."

That's how Mack Glasby describes his role for the Brainerd Warriors wrestling team.

On Tuesday, the Warriors needed him to wrestle at 152 pounds and they needed him to win. So the sophomore went out and pinned Chris Eischens in 3:24 to seal the Warriors' 42-19 Central Lakes Conference victory over the Rocori Spartans in Brainerd.

Glasby's pin improved his individual record to 17-9 and helped the Warriors pick up their first conference win. He was slated to wrestle at 145, but an injury to Greg Flickinger forced Jessen Franzen, Levi Rubin and Glasby to bump up a weight class.

With a 30-4 lead, Glasby went out and solidified Brainerd's victory.

"The second period (Eischens) chose down and I wanted to do just what I did," said Glasby. "I was just going to head lever him and set up an arm bar, figure four him up and get the pin.

"I knew right away, once I had that arm bar, that I was going to pin him because every single pin that I've got this year came from getting an arm bar and that figure four. I knew once I had it that I had the match won pretty much."

Brainerd's big lead was set up by wins from Luke Boran (103), Brandon Mutz (119), Aaron Padrnos (125), Nick Grausam (130), Dillon Houde (135), Franzen (140) and Rubin (145).

Franzen won by technical fall and Rubin picked up an 11-4 decision.

"We bumped three guys up to fill that open spot at 152 and those guys came out and battled," said Warriors co-head coach Mike Boran. "Mack got that big pin and put it out of reach.

"We talked to them about it when we knew we were going to have that hole. We didn't have anybody we could slide in there at that weight. We got better matchups team-wise by bumping those guys up."

Chad Ohman picked up a 4-0 decision at 171 and Sam Pagel scored a 4-2 overtime decision at 189 for the Warriors' 42 points.

The victory is the Warriors' fourth straight after starting the season with two conference losses.

"Part of it is we wrestled Alexandria and Fergus Falls and they're pretty strong teams," said Boran. "We were within a match of them and I think we're getting better.

"We wrestled real well tonight and we're going to keep working and keep getting better and who knows? By the end of the season if we start getting people in certain weight classes we could be pretty competitive."
