The negotiating committee for Brainerd's teachers presented a proposed 18.9 per cent salary increase to the school board. Gene Hansen, chair, said this was needed because of six percent annual inflation and the need to seek equity with 15 comparable districts.

Increase in locomotive production by the Northern Pacific Railroad resulted today in a call for 40 new men to be employed. The call was effective immediately and will add to the 325 men already employed in that department at the Brainerd shops.

Purchase of the property on the southwest corner of Sixth and Norwood Streets from Miss Lily Paine for the purpose of constructing a super service station was announced today by the Tee Pee Oil Co. An investment of $20,000 will be made.
100 years ago (1910)
The payrolls at the Northern Pacific shops for December, which were paid today, were larger than anticipated. On account of short hours it was thought the amount would be $50,000 but instead was $57,000. This bodes well for Brainerd merchants.
