DULUTH - For the fourth time this season the Brainerd Warriors boys' and girls' Alpine ski teams swept the competition Monday.
This time the Duluth East Invite at Spirit Mountain was the site of the Warrior boys' team picking up a 32-point victory thanks to Bror Linnerooth's first varsity title.
The girls' team won by 37 points and saw Gina Engel pick up her second win with a 1:20.25. Taryn Ruttger placed third, followed by Ariana Cibuzar in fourth and Savannah Stone in fifth. Those four girls tallied Brainerd's 235 points, but the Warriors also had Kenzy Ostrowski in eighth, Katie Hutchison in ninth and Meghan Hamson in 11th place.
"It was another stellar outing for our girls team," said Warriors head coach Jim Ruttger. "After the first run we were sitting in second, third, fourth and fifth place. They needed to ski a good second run and they did.
"We're having so much fun with this girls team because we have so much depth. We have at least four girls, who could podium."
It's the fourth win in six meets for the girls. The boys team captured its fifth.
Bror Linnerooth won with a 1:12.93. Thomas Ruttger placed fourth, Cooper Aakhus was 11th and Thor Linnerooth finished 12th.
"Today was a test for the boys because, like the girls, they were sitting in second, third, fourth and fifth after the first run," Jim Ruttger said. "Two of those guys went down on their second run so we had to depend on our sixth and eight seeded guys. That happened to be Cooper and Thor. They came through with good second runs. We needed them to stand and they did what we needed them to do."
Bror became the third different Warrior boy to top the podium. Ruttger and Hutchison were the others.
