George W. Heglund

LITTLE PINE - George William Heglund, age 76, of Little Pine, died on Jan. 17, 2009, at his home. He was born on July 27, 1932, in Crosby to John and Ina (Ronkainen) Heglund. He married Alice Mae Hahnert on July 28, 1956, in Crosby. He graduated from the Crosby-Ironton High School class of 1950. He was a U.S. Navy veteran earning the rank of first class with the Seabees. He earned his associate of arts degree from the Brainerd Community College, his bachelor of science and master of science degrees in education from Bemidji State University. His science and coaching career span 31-1/2 years for the Parkers Prairie and Fergus Falls school districts, retiring in 1990 to their home in Little Pine Township.

He is survived by his wife, Alice; three sons, William (Julie) Heglund, of Byron, Ill., Dean (Darlena) Heglund, of Lacy, Wash., Dan Heglund, of Rapid City, S.D.; one brother, Lawrence (Lois) Heglund, of Fort Collins, Colo.; one sister, Jeannette (Ken) DeCent, of Crosby; three grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A summer memorial service will be planned. Arrangements are with the Koop Funeral Home in Crosby.
