A new zoning ordinance is being finalized by the Brainerd Planning Commission and the Brainerd City Council.
The Planning Commission has scheduled a special meeting to receive public comment on the new draft at 6 p.m. Feb. 18. The open house will be hosted in the council chambers at Brainerd City Hall. Anyone not able to attend the open house can submit comments on the draft by letter to City Planner Mark Ostgarden at city hall, 501 Laurel St., or by e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org.
The new ordinance has been in development for two years. Working with Northwest Associated Consultants of Golden Valley the Planning Commission has updated requirements, revised outdated standards and added new sections to the ordinance.
The zoning ordinance draft and an executive summary have been posted on the city's Web site at www.ci.brainerd.mn.us. Copies of the ordinance and executive summary also are available for viewing at the Brainerd Public Library. Anyone that would like a copy of the documents can contact the Brainerd Planning Department at 828-2309.
The Planning Commission anticipates being able to make any needed ordinance revisions and conduct a public hearing on the final draft in March meeting. Following the public hearing the final draft will be submitted to the city council for adoption. A new Brainerd zoning ordinance potentially could be in effect by the middle of April.
