JANUARY 19 - 80 years ago (1929) - Mal Clark, age 38, brilliant Brainerd attorney, died at his home in north Brainerd yesterday. He fell down a flight of stairs during the night, fracturing his skull, but returned to bed and went to sleep. He was well known for promoting a hotel project.
Brainerd High School 10th-12th-graders will have final exams on Wednesday and Thursday. Finals will begin at 8:20 a.m. on both days and school will be released for students in those grades at noon. Lunch will be served at the high school and transportation schedules will not be altered. Students may choose to stay on campus until the busses pick them up or until after school activities begin.

CROSBY - Robert Aloyce Nelson, age 77, of Crosby, died on Jan. 17, 2009, at the Cuyuna Regional Medical Center in Crosby. He was born on June 24, 1931, in Two Harbors to John and Veronia (Filla) Nelson. He married Janet M. Bjerkness on Aug. 20, 1955, in Crosby. He was a retired MN and Soo Line Railroad employee with 35 years of service. He was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church, Crosby.
