STAPLES - RoseMary Anne (Schloegel) O'Bannon, Staples, 88, passed away Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2007, at the Lakewood Care Center in Staples. She was born to John and Anna (Kager) Schloegel Sr. on Nov. 15, 1918, on the family farm in Springvale Township, Barnes County, northeast of Fingal, N.D.
"Rosey," (her childhood name) attended country school first through eighth grades, ninth grade in Fingal, N.D., then graduated high school from St. Catherine's Catholic School in Valley City, N.D. RoseMary received her registered nursing degree from St. John's Hospital, Fargo, N.D., in February 1943. RoseMary and John became engaged before he enlisted in the Army in April 1942. They were married on March 3, 1943, at the Army Air Forces base in Portland, Ore. During their 60 years of marriage, the family lived and farmed near Wahkon, Minn., Sheldon, N.D., Kindred, N.D., and Pillager, Minn. Rose moved to Motley in 2002 after John entered the Lakewood Care Center in Staples. When living in North Dakota she was active in the Homemakers Club in 4-H leadership and in the Catholic church.
From 1960 to 1968, she worked as a registered nurse in St. Joseph's Hospital then at the Brainerd state hospital until she retired in 1983. She continued her registered nursing work for Cass County, Region Five for several years. She was active in the Minnesota Nursing Association throughout her career. RoseMary was active in the neighborhood Ladies Sunshine Club and St. Michael's Catholic Church Christian Mothers. She was a member of the Ladies VFW Auxiliary, the American Legion Auxiliary, Cattleman's Association and active with the Cass County Fair in Pillager.
Survivors include three daughters, Anne (Bernell) Ness, Pillager, Patricia (Charles) Russell, Brookings, Ore., and Maria (Robert) Koland, Motley; two sons, Timothy (Tone) O'Bannon, Maple Plain, Minn., and Allen (Chris) O'Bannon, Mountain Lake, Minn.; daughter-in-law, Linnea O'Bannon, Johnston, Iowa; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John A. VI; son, John A. VII; granddaughter-in-law, Leslie O'Bannon; sister, Agnes C. Weber; brothers, Andrew Schloegel, John P. Schloegel; sister-in-law, Barbara (Pratchner) Schloegel; and her parents, John and Anna.
Services will be held Monday, Jan. 22, 2007, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Motley with Father Peter K. Kirchner Jr. officiating. A rosary service will be at 10 a.m. at the church. Interment will be in Eleanor Foster Cemetery near Wahkon, Minn. Friends may call from 2-5 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 21, with parish prayers at 2:30 p.m. and one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.
