NISSWA - Ross Alexander Brooks, age 23, resident of Nisswa, died suddenly on Monday, Jan. 15, 2007. Ross was born on April 20, 1983, in Coon Rapids, Minn. He grew up in the Brainerd area and graduated from Brainerd Senior High School in 2001. At the time of his death he was attending his second year at Central Lakes College and had received several academic awards. Ross had a lifelong love of learning, music, friends and lively discussion.

A recent Vox Pop seemed to suggest that there is something awry as funding for education is "over 50 percent" of Minnesota's state budget. As a parent, educator, and taxpayer - I'm not concerned at all. I feel that public education should be the largest portion of any state's budget. After all it is the one "equalizing" force in modern society.
