WALKER -- A 31-year-old Bloomington man was sentenced to more than eight years in prison Friday for the death of man in Whipholt.
Robert Armstrong was sentenced in Cass County District Court to 98 months in prison for the death of 32-year-old Bloomington resident Brian Ingalls Dec. 13, 2000, at Armstrong's residence in Whipholt.
Armstrong was initially charged with second-degree intentional murder and second-degree murder while committing an assault. He pleaded guilty Dec. 10 to a reduced charge of first-degree manslaughter.
According to the criminal complaint, Ingalls and Armstrong were at the Player's Club Bar and Restaurant on Highway 200, near Whipholt, when the two men got into an argument.
The complaint says that after the argument ended Armstrong, Ingalls and three others went to Armstrong's residence, a cabin on the south end of Leech Lake.
At the residence Armstrong and Ingalls again fought, and witnesses observed Armstrong striking Ingalls repeatedly with what appeared to be a knife, the complaint said.
Two witnesses left the residence to get help. Cass County Sheriff's deputies responded to the Whipholt residence where they found the blood-soaked body of Ingalls, a bloody Leatherman knife and Armstrong, the complaint said.
