SARTELL --The Brainerd Warriors girls' basketball team improved to 5-2 in the Central Lakes Conference and 9-3 overall with a 49-40 road victory over the Sartell Sabers Tuesday night.
Lisa Renneke of Brainerd led all scorers in the game with 21 points, including three 3-point baskets, and Amber Haapajoki was also in double figures with 18 points for the Warriors.
Brainerd shot just 15-44 (34 percent) from the field but was 13-18 (72 percent) from the charity stripe.
"I thought we played a very solid first half as we passed and shot the ball very well. In the third quarter we were a little sluggish scoring only two points." Stated Brainerd head coach Carl Hendrickson. "At the start of the fourth quarter assistant coach Ron Gilbertson suggested that we go to a different offense which really turned the game around."
The Warriors are back in action on Friday, January 21st, when they play at Willmar at 7:30 p.m.
