Bridget Allen, 817 Rosewood Street, a student at Brainerd Community College, recently won the "World's Largest Christmas Stocking" promotion at Brainerd Savings and Loan. She then donated the eight-foot stocking filled with games, toys and stuffed animals to the Salvation Army for disbursement to needy children in the Brainerd area.
30 years ago (1970)
The Northern Pacific Railway Company Shops here will construct 150 flat cars in 1970, it was announced today, and will add a new freight car wheel shop and additional air brake facilities at the machine shop.
40 years ago (1960)
For 23 years Brainerd's City Councils have depended on City Clerk Walter Fall for accurate figures on City finances. Within a few months, councilmen here will find themselves without the City Clerk's guiding hand. An ordinance requires retirement of City Employees when they reach their 70th birthday.

Russ Fitzsimmons, 251 pound high school Junior, knocked out "Bull Montana" George Lubovich, 181 pounds, with a hard blow in the first round.

Parent: "Of course, as my daughter is of age she can suit herself as to marrying you, but when she does I shall cut her off without a cent."
Suitor: "In that case, it's all off. I could not think of depriving a young lady of her inheritance."
