BHS can't overcome first-half deficit

WARRIOR GIRLS' BASKETBALL

Posted: Monday, January 18, 2010

BUFFALO - The Brainerd Warriors fell behind by 18 at halftime and never recovered as they were defeated by the Buffalo Bison 58-38 in a Section 8-4A game Saturday.

"They got up us on 18-2," Warriors coach Carl Hendrickson said. "We couldn't make a shot. It seemed like we always had one shot, and we got no offensive boards, especially in the first half.

"They pressed after made baskets, and we turned it over a few times. It was more unforced turnovers, not their pressure. Their press didn't really hurt us. We didn't take care of the ball very well."

Kayla Kraemer, with 12 points, was the only Warrior in double digits.

"In the second half we played them pretty much even," Hendrickson said. "When you get down like that it's hard to come back and score about 45 points to win it in the second half.

"We had it cut down to 10 at one time, then we turned it over, they made a 3-point play, and we couldn't mount anything more."
