20 years ago (1990)

Jim Ruttger wasn't sure if he would face an uphill battle as coach of the new Warrior's alpine skiing team. But a month into the program he says it's been pretty good, and he's surprised at the number of boys who have turned out for the team.

30 years ago (1980)

The Brainerd Water Plant was the scene of the case of the missing fluoride shipment. A truck scheduled for 9:30 hadn't arrived by noon. Longtime fluoride foe, Irene Johnson was on hand, and asked, Well, is the rat poison here yet?

40 years ago (1970)

Bill Harris and Bill Klein combined for 38 points, but the Warriors still went down to defeat at the hands of Superior by 62-56. Both teams suffered terrible free-throw shooting, Brainerd making 6 of 13, while Superior made only 8 of 23.

60 years ago (1950)

After five days and nights in sub-zero cold and snow, Lady, a four-year-old golden retriever belonging to Frank Jensen of Gilbert Lake, is back home at the Jensen fireside. She was caught in a trap on Whitely Creek, near Brainerd, but was found by the trapper.

80 years ago (1930)

In bowling, Braino Beverages crashed their way to the top of the Handicap League by taking the Camels for three games. Rowell had his ball in the pocket for three fine games of 204, 191 and 201. His 596 was good for second high series of the week.

100 years ago (1910)

Mr. and Mrs. Verne White are happy over the arrival of a five-pound girl, who came to gladden their home yesterday. Mother and daughter are doing nicely and Verne is one broad, substantial grin.
