BACKUS -- Alison L. Ferris, 56, of Backus, Minn., died Friday, Jan. 14, 2005, at St. Joseph's Medical Center in Brainerd, Minn., after a courageous battle with cancer.
Ali was born Sept. 25, 1948, in Granite Falls, Minn., to Gerald and Lois (Solseth) Sens. She moved to North Mankato, Minn., with her family in 1952 and attended school in both North Mankato and Mankato. She graduated from Mankato High School in 1966. After graduation, she attended the University of Minnesota School for Dental Assistant and worked as a dental assistant in North Mankato. She was united in marriage on Aug. 18, 1968, to Bradley Ferris. They lived in Mankato until September 1969, at which time they moved to Gaylord, Minn., where her husband was stationed as a State Trooper, and Alison worked as a dental assistant for Dr. Arlen Sneltjes and later for Dr. Todd Eckel. In October 2000, she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer and fought this battle with class and dignity to the very end. She and her husband both retired at the end of 2001, and they moved to their lake home on Ponto Lake located near Backus, Minn., in April of 2002. Ali loved fishing, gardening, cooking, being with her family and friends, especially her special "Putt's n Putter" girlfriends in Gaylord and her "Ponto Lake book club" girlfriends at Backus. The pride and joy of her life was her two-year-old granddaughter, Alexis. Her husband, Bradley, of Backus, Minn., and three children survive her: son, Jonathan (Joy) Ferris, and their daughter, Alexis, of Rosemount, Minn., son, Daniel Ferris, and daughter, Sandra Ferris, both of Omaha, Neb. One sister also survives her: Audrey Gatchell, of Mankato, Minn., as well as brother-in-law and sister-in-law Dennis and Shirley Ferris, of Mankato, Minn., and also nephews and nieces.
Her parents, Gerald and Lois Sens, as well as an infant daughter, Jola, preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2005, at Salem Lutheran Church of Longville with Pastor John Monson officiating.
Visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at Kline Funeral Home of Pine River with a prayer service at 7 p.m. and also on hour prior to services at the church.
A committal service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 20, 2005, at Woodland Hills Funeral Home and Cemetery in Mankato, Minn., with a visitation being held 1 hour prior.
Interment will be in Woodland Hills Cemetery of Mankato.
