Kloss leads Pierz girls

HOLDINGFORD -- Allyson Kloss led the Pierz Pioneers past the Holdingford Huskers 85-49 in Central Minnesota Conference girls' basketball action Thursday.

Kloss finished with 20 points, 15 rebounds and four steals. Teammate Shelley Boser added 17 points, seven steals and eight assists. Sheila Stegora led the Pioneers with six blocked shots.

Verndale 49, Henning 39

HENNING -- The Verndale Pirates won their fifth game of the season with a 49-39 victory over the Henning Hornets Thursday in Park Region Conference girls' basketball.

Verndale hadn't won more than four games in any of the previous three seasons.

"We put them on the line a lot and luckily they didn't make their shots," said Verndale coach Art Schluttner. "We took a few more shots then they did.

"But in the fourth quarter, with four minutes left, we were only up by three points, then Kayla White hit a three-pointer that put us up by six. That was the key to the game."

White finished with 20 points and four steals. Raya Kern added 14 points and 13 rebounds for Verndale.
