WEST BEND, Wis. - Ione H. Guth (Schloemer), age 87, of West Bend, Wis., passed away Saturday, Jan. 13, 2007, at Diamond Willow Assisted Living in Baxter, Minn.
She was born in West Bend on Oct. 6, 1919, to the late Henry and Julia (Schubert) Schloemer and graduated from West Bend High School in the class of 1938. On Feb. 12, 1942, Ione was united in marriage to Paul Guth at St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church in West Bend.
Ione was a lifetime member of St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church, West Bend. She enjoyed cooking for her family and many friends, and was famous for her hamburgers and brownies. Ione was also an excellent crossword puzzle solver and gardener. She and her husband, Paul, moved to the Diamond Willow Assisted Living Center in 2006 to be closer to their daughter.
She is survived by her husband, Paul; a daughter, Julie T. Guth (Louise Seliski), of Ironton, Minn.; a sister-in-law, Louise (John) Roth, of West Bend, Wis.; two nieces, Penny Fitzsimmons, of West Bend, Wis., and Joan Ganzel of West Bend, Wis.; two nephews, James (Andrea) Schloemer, of Fox Point, Wis., and John (Marcia) Harth, of Anchorage, Alaska; other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Lt. Col. (Ret.) Beulah Schloemer; two brothers, Maurice Schloemer and Vernon Schloemer; a sister-in-law, Helen Schloemer; and a nephew, Thomas Schloemer.
Funeral services for Ione will be held on Thursday, Jan. 18, at 2 p.m. at St. John's Ev. Lutheran Church. The Rev. George Mumm will officiate and burial will follow in Washington County Memorial Park. Visitation will be at the church only on Thursday from 1 p.m. until the time of service. Memorials to the Women's Center of Mid-Minnesota in Brainerd are appreciated.
