The losses continued to mount for the Brainerd Warrior girls' basketball team Saturday as it was administered a 61-47 setback by the Hibbing Bluejackets in non-conference action.
It was Brainerd's fifth-straight loss, dropping it to 3-11 overall.
Hibbing's third-quarter burst put the game away. It outscored the Warriors 22-7 during the quarter, pulling away from a 25-25 halftime deadlock.
"We've tried different things throughout this year to come out and play aggressively in the third quarter," Warriors coach Carl Hendrickson said, "and again (Saturday) we have not been answering that call in the third.
"The third quarter has just been killing us for a number of games here where we haven't come out and gotten off to a good start. Them scoring 22 points in the third, and us seven, we're not a good enough team to get buried like that and be able to come back and win a game when we're down by 15."
Hibbing 61, Warriors 47
The key: The Bluejackets outscored BHS 22-7 in the third quarter following a 25-25 halftime tie.
Next: at Sartell, 7:30 p.m. Tuesday
Cara Wiltse led Brainerd with 14 points and Danielle Uphoff added 10 while the Warriors continue to struggle to find the right combination of players.
"We have to find five players who really want to come out and play," Hendrickson said, "and right now we're getting two or three that are coming out and playing. Then we have to put someone else in for the other two who aren't playing.
"As far as having five consistent people every night coming out and playing, we just haven't had that. A lot of that has had to do with the number of kids we've had coming and going and having to shuffle. We've had no continuity in our offense."
Hendrickson said three aspects of the game prevent the Warriors from winning.
"One is rebounding," he said. "Two, when we get the ball inside the paint, we haven't been able to put those in the basket. We did a little better job of that (Saturday). Three, we haven't shot good free throws.
"If we're going to stop this slide, and the more losses you get the harder it is, we're going to have do those three things."
