Alyssa Ritter, the daughter of Mark and Jacqueline Ritter, Aitkin, and Kristi Kapsner, the daughter of Linda and Don Kapsner, Brainerd, were selected Students of the Month for January by the Youth Activities Committee of Brainerd Elks Lodge No. 615.

Ritter is a senior at Aitkin High School with a 3.9 grade-point average. She is in concert choir and on the tennis and competitive dance teams. She is president of the Student Council, a member of the National Honor Society and is a mentor in the Peer Helpers program. She has won the tennis team's "hardest worker" award, the Rotary Essay Contest and outstanding Student Council Award in 2002, 2003 and 2004. She plans to attend college in Duluth and major in business, education or medicine.
Kapsner is a senior at the Brainerd Area Education Center. She was a Student of the Month at AEC and volunteers in early childhood development. She works at the Ramada Inn and plans to become a pre-school teacher.
Brady Fox, Brainerd, and Lance Herbst, Baxter, were named to the dean's list at Alexandria Technical College for fall semester.
Forty-eight students at Franklin Junior High School were selected by their teachers to receive the Personal Success Award for first semester. They will receive certificates from the school, as well as a movie pass from Baxter Lions Club. Katharine Mitchell, the daughter of Rob and Loretta Norgon and Wayne and Jerilyn Mitchell, Baxter, was named Rising Star Undergraduate for North Dakota, 2004. The award was presented by the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators, Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education. She is a senior at North Dakota State University-Fargo, and recently completed a semester-long internship, traveling as an admission representative for the university.
